Intercultural exchange & Zanzibar History

“Slavery has been removed from the market, but not from the mind,” was shared by Nagaraj today during Reflection Hour.

After a morning exploring Stone Town with talented local youth, YGP participants visited a slave museum where they learned about the history of the slave trade in Zanzibar.

In the afternoon, we took part in a workshop on Interfaith Dialogue with both YGP and local participants. Eye-level discussions allowed participants the opportunity to learn about each others’ perspectives on religion in an open and respectful way.

We completed the day with a traditional dinner hosted by Zanzibar SOS Children’s Village and an engaged reflection on our theme of the day “Slavery, Racism, and Dialogue”

“We need to be human in order to give others the space to be human too.” – Yury
